Staff Meet Dr. James Greenspon MD Dr. Jim specializes in nutritional counseling and family medicine, inspired by his father and weight loss pioneer, Dr. Irwin Greenspon. He graduated from Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!) in 1981 and continued on to Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis where he earned his MD degree in 1985. Dr. Jim completed a residency in family practice at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Jim eagerly returned home to join his father's historic practice, established in 1949, where he acquired his father's time-tested wisdom and techniques. After helping countless people lose and maintain their weight, he has become an expert in the weight loss field. To accommodate patients who were making a long drive to the main Lansing location, he added a satellite office in Northfield in 2016 that is easily accessible near interstate 94. Both Lansing and Northfield welcome walk-ins, though appointments are recommended for beauty procedures. He also continually adds new products, technology, and other services to give patients even more options to feel good about themselves in one location, including the most popular weight loss treatments, GLP-1 medications, Botox, fillers, laser treatments for skin, Emsculpt, peels, medical grade skincare products, and so much more! Greenspon Medical & Aesthetics was founded in 1949 in Lansing by Dr. Irwin Greenspon, specializing in family practice and weight loss. His son James now runs the practice. Learn about our history and expansions! History Greenspon Medical & Aesthetics, celebrating 75 years in 2024, has a long history. Read on to learn about how the practice came to be, Dr. Irwin Greenspon and Dr. James Greenspon, and our buildings. Greenspon Medical & Aesthetics was established in 1949 by Dr. Irwin Greenspon. He attended Chicago Medical School, receiving his MD degree in 1942. Upon graduating, he served as a physician on a navy ship during World War II. Shortly after the war, he began his private practice, originally located at 3344 Ridge Road in Lansing, Illinois. Eventually, he moved to a new office building in downtown Lansing at 3232 Ridge Road. During those years, he practiced general medicine which included obstetrics and surgery. He was often busy making house calls to his sick patients. Dr. Irwin Greenspon began practicing nutritional counseling and weight loss in the late 1950s and established a weight loss program that has since been widely copied due to how well it worked. He developed his own technique for helping people lose and maintain their weight. Eventually his practice transitioned almost entirely into helping people lose weight due to his highly effective and successful program. On August 1, 1988, Dr. Irwin Greenspon proudly welcomed his son, Dr. Jim, as he likes to be called, into the practice. Dr. Jim Greenspon knew from a young age that he wanted to be a physician just like his father and often accompanied him on his house calls. They had a strong father and son bond, making it only natural for the two of them to practice together. They spent eight years working together during which Dr. Jim Greenspon honed his skills and learned all about Chicagoland's best weight loss program. In order to accommodate his growing practice, Dr. Jim built a brand new office building in 1993 in its present location on 18225 Torrence Avenue in Lansing, IL. The building was new, but the diet program remained the same. In 2016, he opened a satellite office in Northfield, Illinois, currently located at 570 Frontage Road just off interstate 94. The Lansing office mostly serves Chicago, Chicagoland, Lansing, Munster, and Indiana, though many patients drive through multiple states to get their weight loss journeys started. It's an excellent location for folks on the south side and west side of Chicago. Additionally, the office in Lansing offers the widest variety of procedures and technology. The Northfield office also serves Chicago and Chicagoland as well as folks who live farther north, some driving from Wisconsin. Patients are welcome to visit either office. Both accept walk-ins, with appointments only recommended for beauty procedures to make sure enough time is reserved. The Lansing office is a geometric brick building with a bright, light, and airy waiting room. The black fiberglass chairs around the perimeter are a fun nod to mid century design and the era in which Greenspon Medical & Aesthetics was taking shape. String lights are turned on during the cooler months for a festive atmosphere. We later expanded our parking lot so all of our patients could have an easier time finding a place to park. This also allowed for patients to remotely sign in at the office and wait in their cars during the peak of the pandemic. Our office in Northfield is located at 570 Frontage Road in Suite 310. It's right off the highway and easy to get to. We had the opportunity to renovate our suite just for the needs of our practice. The views out the window are just spectacular! 2024 marked an especially important milestone for Greenspon Medical & Aesthetics as it was our 75th anniversary ! This has been enormously exciting for us and we know Dr. Irwin Greenspon would be proud to see his dream live on. We want to take a moment to thank all of our patients for making this possible.
